About the FrameLoft
Janet Buchwald and her husband Joel Moskowitz started
the FrameLoft in 1983, the same year they
moved to Sudbury from Cambridge.
Their children spent their formative years in the FrameLoft. A back room
with a crib was the baby’s room and in the shop a basket still overflows
with toys that customers children are welcome to play with while visiting.
For a number of years, Joel and Janet ran the Julia Saul Gallery, named for their two children, in the ground floor retail space below their workshop. Bi-monthly exhibits featured local and regional artists. The gallery hosted musical and educational events as well. But in 1989, during a downturn in the economy, the gallery closed.
Now, the FrameLoft has a small gallery that features artwork by Joel Moskowitz. He has illustrated a series of Hebrew blessings, and works in a variety of styles, most often, pen and ink. Both his current work, and the Hebrew blessings are on display. The blessings are also featured on a website, www.hebrewblessings.com.
Joel learned framing skills as an employee of The Bunnel Frame Shop, a fine custom shop on Newbury Street, Boston. There, he learned traditional techniques, wood finishing and leafing.
